Introducing GOYA: Get Off Your Ass and make stuff happen

As a business owner I am always thinking ‘I have no time’ how am I going to fit this in? But there is so much I want to achieve. It wasn’t until I was introduced to the concept of GOYA – the Get Off Your Ass and make stuff happen philosophy that I realised I can achieve all my goals. In this episode I unpack the GOYA method as a means to create success.

BRANDING BEFORE BREAKFAST EP 44 Introducing GOYA: Get Off Your Ass and make stuff happen

Hi everyone. I’ve been spending a lot of time with some really interesting entrepreneurs lately. And the best thing about hanging out with entrepreneurs is that they have really cool things to share. So Pauline Nguyen, the founder of Red Lantern restaurant in Sydney, introduced me to this concept of GOYA. It’s literally an acronym for Get Off Your Ass and get stuff done. I love this idea. As a busy business owner, I’m really time poor. I’ve got lots going on and I’m often feeling a little bit deflated because there’s lots of things I want to do, but I can’t fit it in. And I just think, okay, can’t do that. Too hard basket. But I’ve reprogrammed my thinking with this concept of GOYA and actually, if I schedule really carefully with my time, I can get stuff done. What I want to do here and there’s no excuses.

So an example is yoga. Fitness is really important to me but when I’m busy it just falls off my plate. Now thinking about GOYA i’m like, no, Get Off Your Ass and get shit done. And so I’ve just said i’ll get up one hour earlier every day and make the yoga happen. And the same as if you want to implement a podcast, or a landing page, or a new product for your business. You think, oh my gosh, I’m never going to get to this. Rather than going home and flopping on the couch why don’t you just spend 10 minutes,15 minutes, 20 minutes every day working on this. And before you know it, you’ll achieve what you want to achieve. This is how successful people operate. They implement GOYA even if they don’t realise that’s what they’re doing.

So recently I watched a interview with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, he’s someone who’s achieved a lot in his lifetime. At 19 he was Mr Universe. He built a really successful construction company. He became a world famous actor and it was even the Governor of California. He talks a lot about being really disciplined with his time and making stuff happen. This is how successful people operate. So I think you should give GOYA a trial run. That’s it for me, time for brekkie.
