Creating action: Ideas for communicating persuasively

You can’t control people – and be a nice human at the same time – but what you can do is communicate in a way that makes people want to follow. Here are some simple ideas on communicating more effectively that you can apply to your brand, your business or your life.

BRANDING BEFORE BREAKFAST EP 75 Creating action: Ideas for communicating persuasively

Hi everyone. I’m Jodie. I’m the MD at Tiny Hunter and today I want to talk about creating action. So it can be frustrating as a human, as a business owner, as a brand. You want someone to take action, but you can’t obviously control other people because that would be bad. So, the question is, what can I do that’s within my control, that will help create the action that I desire? So I want to give you a little real example from Tiny Hunter. I really like to know how the team is going, what they’re thinking. So I send surveys from time to time. And generally when I send a survey it’s takes quite a while to get all the responses and there’s always some stragglers that I have to chase and chase.

So I did a little survey the other day and it was very impactful because I got all my responses superfast. And what I did is, I changed the way that I wrote the email. So this may be something you can apply to your own email writing, to marketing copy. It’s just thinking about creating action and being more persuasive, I guess. So I’m going to read you this little email. The subject was ‘little survey – less than one minute’. So I’m setting the scene there.

Hi team, happy Friday! Would love you to all complete this tiny survey ASAP because doing it now, is way more effective than ignoring this email now that you have read it and coming back to it later.

And then I had the link to the survey, which said ‘let’s go’. I kept it super simple and super short. I used very active language and I framed it up that this wasn’t going to take much time and that it would almost be a little silly to have wasted the time reading it and to come back to it later. So I just wanted to share that little example because I think it’s something that can be applied in many, many aspects of our lives. We’re dealing with a lot of busy people and trying to create outcomes. So think about how you could apply this little example within your business but then maybe also with your customers. That’s it for me today. It’s time for brekkie.
