Organisations often think that having a set of values is enough to create a positive workplace culture. Unfortunately it’s not that easy. Your values are not your culture, but they do play a vital role and they need to be more than just a words on a page.
Good morning, my name is Kiri. I’m the Business Growth Strategist here at Tiny Hunter. Today I want to talk to you about values and some ways in which you can bring your values to life within your organisation.
Many companies think that having a set of values is enough to create a positive workplace culture. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy. Your values are not your culture but, they do play a vital role and they need to be more than just words on a page. Having a set of documented values that your team can recite is important. But, if they don’t know what that means for them in their day to day role then your values become valueless. One really effective way to bring your values to life within your organisation is to create a list of associated behaviours that go with those values. And make sure you involve the whole team because your employees are far more likely to embrace your values if they’ve had a say in creating and shaping them. For an example, one of our values is ‘We own it’ but, what does that look like? We got together as a whole team and we brainstormed a list of actions and behaviours that demonstrate the value ‘We own it.’ We came up with things like, we come prepared to meetings we own our mistakes, we do what we say.
Being able to attach behaviors to your values gives your organisation and your employees tools to really live and breathe those values. There are so many ways that you can bring your values to life within your company. And that’s just one way that’s been really effective for us. Maybe give it a try this week.
That’s it from me, it’s time for brekkie.
