Do I really need to invest in social media?

With 575 million active users on LinkedIn, 2.38 billion on Facebook and 1 billion on Instagram the answer is yes, you do need to be investing time and money into growing your social media presence. Why? Because that’s where your customers are playing. You just need to find the right channel and the right way to engage in a meaningful and authentic way.

BRANDING BEFORE BREAKFAST EP34 – Do I really need to invest in social media?

Hi everyone. Lots of people ask me, do I really need to be investing time, money and energy into social media? The answer is yes. Why? Because that’s where people are playing and if you’re truly going to be human-centric you need to be active where your audience is. So I think the last audience count for LinkedIn was 575 million monthly users. For Facebook 2.38 billion users and Instagram 2 billion users. That’s a lot of people. So, you need to figure out which channel you should be playing in. Whether that’s Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter even. And the great thing about social media is that has levelled the playing field. So indie brands or brands that don’t have big budgets when they’re starting out can actually have a really big impact and they can be competing against those big brands that have got deep pockets.

Let’s take a look at Frank Body for example. So two women in Melbourne, they saw an opportunity to create a coffee exfoliating face mask. They just started with $5,000, made the first product, they launched on Instagram and they had a really great content marketing strategy. And it worked! They attracted customers and I think three or four years on they are making $20 million in sales. So if you haven’t yet dipped your toe in the water just dive in. Get started. Figure out which platform you need to be in, open an account, start posting. Then build out your strategy and you never know where it’s going to take you. That’s it for me. Time for brekkie.
